The Holidays Rock.

Gifts. Grog. Food. Family.
Not necessarily in that order but all good nonetheless.

Surviving the Holidays

  • Buy wine by the mixed case and get 10-15% off
  • Sparkling Wines? Great deals abound like Cockatoo Ridge Brut Sparkling, Saint Hilaire Blanc de Blanc Brut Champagne or (my fave) Marguet-Bonnerave Cuvee' Rose'
  • Older family members will appreciate a nice Port or Sherry after dinner--have some on hand
  • The two most food friendly yet often overlooked wines? German Riesling (Kabinett or Spatlese) and Austrian Gruner Veltliner.
  • Not sure which wine to bring to someone's house? Champagne, white burgundy, and Merlot are usually safe if you don't know their preferences.
  • With lots of folks drinking wine have wine charms on hand, or make your own
  • It's time to open up that bottle you are saving--choose a day and do it!

  • New Book: Wine for Women Not Just for Women
Leslie Sbrocco writes that Sangiovese and Chianti can seduce like "sleek Italian heels." Moreover, Sauvignon Blanc is like a "crisp white shirt" that can casually be tied at the waist. Pinot Noir is the "seductive satin" red. Hmmm. $25
