Skiing & Wine: Tahoe Style This time of the year people flock to the Lake Tahoe area for a selection of 20 plus ski resorts, most notably Heavenly, Squaw Valley, and Sierra. We were there amidst next-to-perfect conditions last week, navigating "blue runs," spending time with dear old friends, and drinking wine.
After your mogul-beaten, wind-chapped body makes it back to the lodge, and you shed fifty pounds of equipment, gear, and polar-sports apparel, your first thought is to slide into a comfy chair by the hissing fire and cup a challis of wine. Maintaining this state, fortified with cheese and crackers, became our group's nightly ritual. Eventually we would amble out to get a fine meal, accompanied by some unique California wines from boutique wineries that never make it this far east. Predictably we would end the evening at one of the area's many casinos and stay until the ATM machines were empty. This of course was the one place we didn't drink wine--with the blanket of cigarette smoke the only beverage that can hold its own is Kentucky Bourbon. Click Here to read the Full Article
Atlanta Wine Show Wrap-Up The Fox Theatre was host to the Atlanta Wine Show on Saturday, March 31st. ConnectWithWine was there raffling off a Jeriboam of Beringer's 1999 Founders Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Alisa Hubbard was our lucky winner!
The show drew a few thousand on that rainy day. It exceeded estimates of many exhibiting, since wine and food had almost run out some two hours before the event ended. CWW wishes to thank participants who sat through our hour-long seminar on wine without having wine to taste! Note to self: when doing seminars on wine be sure to include a sampling.
A Taste for Theater, May 30th CWW and Amanda Lester Trevelino PR are co-organizers for the 1st Annual 7 Stages Taste for Theater. The reward for registering is a chance to win two (2) Riedel Vinum Bordeaux wine stems, valued at $24.95 each! These elegant 24% lead crystal bowls were designed to optimize the experience of a wine. George Riedel discovered the delivery of a wine's "message", its bouquet and taste, depends on the form of the glass. Bordeaux glasses were designed for just those wines, as well as robust varietals that make up the Bordeaux grapes. Click Here to enter the raffle.
| | | | | Quick Sips Check out Vino Hour every Friday from 6pm - 8pm at the Lo Sputino wine bar in Buckhead. We went Aussie yesterday with a 1999 Jim Berry Shiraz, a 1999 Trevor Jones Shiraz, and Limerick Lane 1998 Zin--phenomenally soft tannined, mammoth-fruited wines.
There continues to be much written about wine & health. The March issue of Wine Spectator mentions a thirteen year study linking alcohol consumption in moderation to a reduced chance of heart attack. Go to WebMD, input wine and health into the search field, and get ready for hundreds of articles, from lowering of cholesterol, stress reduction, longevity, even reducing chances for a cold sore?!
