- November Drawing
One Mixed Case of Raffaldini Wine! |
 |
There
are very few winery operations worldwide who can claim they
have a 700 year, uninterrupted heritage within wine. Seeking
the best site for their Italian varietals in the U.S., the
search ended with the Yadkin Valley of North Carolina. Industry
veterans Stephen & Susan Lyons, formerly of Sonoma, California,
are running the winery, less than four hours north of Atlanta.
Our
drawing for October & November is for a mixed case of
their wines, already sitting in our cellar here at the Connect
With Wine offices. Value is $150.
You
may enter the drawing here. |

Direct Shipping Debate, Part II
Want to learn what this debate is all about? How it effects all
of us? Here is the end-all resource for the subject: Good
Resource One of our readers has this to say about
Direct Shipping of wine: "The issue boils down to which part
of the Constitution takes precedence - the interstate commerce
clause (which I believe is part of the Bill of Rights), or the
21st Amendment ending Prohibition which set up the whole liquor
distribution mess. Obviously, I'm in favor of the Bill of Rights.
One saying I've heard is that it's easier to order a gun from
another state than it is to order a bottle of wine......"

Discovery Has Big Implications
Mapping
our taste buds showed that earlier conceived ideas about how humans
taste wine was incorrect. Taste's older cousin, Smell, has ground-breaking
research that earned it's scientists the Nobel Prize. Is a time
coming when a wine is "manufactured" to hit all the
key odor receptors? More

Oak Vs. French Oak
As the Euro has pushed the cost of French Oak barrels every higher,
American Oak is now used all over the world. But is this only
a cost consideration, or do some actually consider the taste elements
imparted to be better? More

Pigs, Elk, Bears, and now Wild Turkeys at Risk
All
of these critters, large and small, have one thing in common:
they are voracious eaters of wine grapes, and can decimate crops
in no time. California legislature allows for vineyard managers
to deal with the grape-thieves on their own terms. More
